Fertilizers

Ammonia is used as a stabilizer and neutralizer by multiple sectors and as a source of nitrogen in industries such as waste and wastewater management, paper production, in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and pharmaceuticals. Carbon dioxide is a by-product of the ammonia production process, which is used by Proman’s methanol production facilities in Trinidad, thereby reducing emissions and waste.

However, 80% of the 250m tonnes of global ammonia produced today is used for fertilizers, either applied directly or converted into products such as Urea, Ammonium nitrate and Urea Ammonium Nitrate (UAN). These support farmers by increasing crop yields, improving soil quality and ensuring healthy plant growth – thus supporting global food security. Liquid fertilizer solutions containing UAN are versatile as a source of plant nutrition, as they can be combined with other nutrients or chemicals, meaning the liquid fertilizer can be customized to meet the needs of any soil or crop.

Our fertilizers are currently produced at our plants in the Point Lisas Industrial Estate in Trinidad and Tobago. We are currently building an ammonia plant in Topolobampo, Mexico, which will reduce Mexican imports of ammonia and provide a vital, local source of fertilizers for local farmers.
