APT 1 – Ammonia Plant Topolobampo
Supply of ammonia to local fertilizer industry and for export
The Topolobampo Ammonia Project, with a nominal production capacity of 2,200 MTPD (equivalent to 770,000 MTPY) of Ammonia, represents a strategic investment to develop a world-scale ammonia facility in Mexico, supporting regional industrial growth and global fertilizer demand. It is also the first plant of its kind on the Pacific Coast. Proman, acting as Owner and Strategic Developer, ensures the successful delivery of the project across all phases, from development through execution and operations readiness.
Proman E&C, as the main EPC Contractor, is responsible for the full project delivery, from detailed engineering to commissioning, and ensuring safe, on-time and cost-effective execution. The successful delivery of a world-scale ammonia plant depends not only on engineering excellence, but on the ability to anticipate, resolve, and manage complexity across all interfaces. At Topolobampo, Proman E&C enables smooth execution by combining strong EPC leadership with proactive problem-solving and rigorous interface control.

What local or global need is being fulfilled/addressed by the facility
The project is designed to support regional industrial development while meeting growing global demand for fertilizers.
Notably, this facility will be the first ammonia plant of its kind on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, reinforcing its strategic relevance both nationally and internationally.
The project’s geographic location in Topolobampo, Sinaloa, provides significant competitive advantages. Its coastal positioning enables efficient access to maritime transport routes, resulting in lower freight and logistics costs compared to inland or less strategically located competitors. This advantage is further strengthened by its proximity to:
The local agricultural “corn belt” market, a major consumer of fertilizers
Nearby industrial demand centers
Key export markets, particularly the United States and Latin America
Overall, the combination of large-scale production capacity, strategic location, and logistics efficiency positions the Topolobampo Ammonia Project as a key asset for enhancing Mexico’s fertilizer supply chain, boosting industrial growth, and improving access to international markets
