British High Commission and Proman Foundation Sign MoU to increase Chevening Scholarships

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – The British High Commission and the Proman Foundation are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to increase the number of prestigious Chevening Scholarship awards offered to Trinidad and Tobago nationals.

The MoU signed on 26 March at the British High Commission in Port of Spain, represents a strategic and forward-looking collaboration aimed at national development through education and innovation. A key highlight of this partnership is the notable increase in scholarships now available to nationals of Trinidad and Tobago, reflecting the strong commitment to investing in the country’s future talent.

It specifically targets students intending to study at accredited universities in the United Kingdom in process engineering, chemical engineering, energy, and sustainability disciplines. Chevening is a UK government international awards programme that has been aimed at developing global leaders since 1983. The scholarship offers a unique opportunity for future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers worldwide to grow professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK.

Through this MoU, the Proman Foundation, a leading supporter of educational and sustainable development initiatives in Trinidad and Tobago, will help increase the scholarship’s reach in the twin-island state, giving more talented persons an opportunity to pursue a master’s degree in one of the supported fields.

Key Details of the MoU:

  • One additional Chevening Scholarship will be offered each year for the next two years.
  • The scholarship will be available to students pursuing postgraduate studies in process engineering, chemical engineering, energy, or sustainability.

British High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago His Excellency Jon Dean, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “This collaboration with the Proman Foundation will provide talented students from diverse backgrounds to pursue a master’s degree in the UK. The additional scholarship will not only contribute to the growth of expertise in critical sectors such as energy and sustainability but also underscores the continued relations the enduring and strong ties between the UK and Trinidad and Tobago”

Claus Cronberger, Executive Chairman, Proman Trinidad and Chair of the Proman Foundation, thanked the High Commission for the opportunity to partner on this initiative. He said, “I’m delighted that the Proman Foundation is supporting the Chevening Scholarship programme, which underscores our commitment to education and skills training, and to developing a pipeline of future talent for our industry. I’m proud that we’re taking this step, and with so much potential amongst university graduates in our country, I look forward to seeing who the first beneficiary is, and where it will take them.”

The scholarship will be available to candidates who meet the eligibility requirements for the Chevening programme and are interested in pursuing studies that align with the areas of focus highlighted in the MoU.

Applications for the additional Chevening Scholarship will open as part of the regular Chevening application cycle. Interested candidates are encouraged to visit the Chevening website www.chevening.org  for further details on the application process and eligibility.

This partnership marks a significant step in promoting global educational exchange, capacity building, and sustainable development worldwide.
