Proman employees help complete a new home with Habitat for Humanity Trinidad & Tobago

Proman employees are proud to have helped build a new home for a family in Gasparillo, Trinidad & Tobago, as part of their global partnership with Habitat for Humanity International. The house was completed at the end of May during a special women-only build, led by Habitat for Humanity Trinidad & Tobago’s Patron, Her Excellency President Paula-May Weekes.

A team of volunteers from Proman companies, including Group Chief Executive David Cassidy, mixed, transported and laid the concrete for the apron around the house earlier in May. On 23rd May, Hanna Sukhu-Maharaj of Methanol Holdings (Trinidad) Limited (MHTL) and Aleeya Ali of Industrial Plant Services Limited (IPSL) took the baton from their colleagues to complete work on the home as part of Habitat for Humanity’s 2019 “Women’s Build.”

Around the world, women and children are those most likely to be affected by poor living conditions. “Women Builds” are one of Habitat for Humanity’s feature projects, where women from all walks of life come together to take a proactive step in serving their communities and helping other women in need.

Hanna Sukhu-Maharaj, Commercial Manager for Methanol Holdings (Trinidad) Limited (MHTL), said:

“It’s really great to see such a diverse group of women here today. We have representatives from across the energy sector, the banking sector, as well as the President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. We even have beauty queens here today! It was challenging doing this under the hot sun, but no one hesitated to get their hands dirty. It has been a real privilege to work alongside these ladies and to share a sense of achievement in completing today’s build.”

Aleeya Ali, Technical Services Manager for IPSL’s Methanol Division, said:

“I was really excited to take part in this build, particularly as so many of my colleagues have talked about how much they’ve enjoyed previous volunteer events with Habitat for Humanity. It has been a truly memorable occasion, with a huge sense of camaraderie amongst all the women here. What I saw today was a group of people determined to work hard, get down to business, and make something lasting and beautiful for someone else.”

Proman has been partnering with Habitat for Humanity in Trinidad & Tobago on local community projects since 2012, and recently launched a global partnership with Habitat for Humanity International. In the initial two years, the partnership will help to improve the homes and lives of over 1,300 families and individuals – in Trinidad & Tobago, Europe and the United States. The company is putting its employees at the heart of the partnership through a series of volunteer builds, making sure that people at all levels of the business have the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to Habitat’s hugely important work.
